Pete & Taryn Wells

In 2018, Pete and his wife of forty years, Taryn left California and traveled extensively around Europe and the United States before settling for a change of pace in beautiful Lakewood Ranch, Florida where they reside today. They have one son, Britton who also lives in the area.

Over the decades, Pete and Taryn have gained a wide range of experience managing properties through home ownership, home remodeling, and managing rentals in multiple states. They currently own several rental properties in Florida and are very familiar with the challenges faced by absentee owners. They thoroughly understand your concerns as an absentee homeowner as they have already walked in your shoes!

What started as a part-time voluntary service taking care of their neighbors’ winter homes has today evolved into a top-notch service company called Crown Home Watch. After Hurricane Ian and the valuable lessons that they learned in its aftermath, they made the wise decision to formalize their home watch business to protect both themselves and their clients. Seeing a need, they also added both Concierge Services and Senior Assist Services to their portfolio to better serve their clients.

They earned accreditation from the National Home Watch Association (NHWA). They enthusiastically endorse the NHWA code of ethics and mission statement. They are fully bonded and insured and have passed a criminal background check so that their clients can feel completely comfortable when Crown Home Watch enters their homes. In addition, Taryn has earned the designation of Certified Home Watch Professional.

Pete and Taryn are both graduates of the Citizens Law Enforcement Academy for the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office. They proudly support and are honorary members of the Florida Sheriff’s Association. They are also members of the Anna Maria Island Moose Lodge #2188.

When not working with Crown’s clients, Taryn enjoys scouring her multitude of cookery books to find new recipes for the delight of both family and friends. Pete can be found gardening or fishing for Bass behind their home. His decades in the perfect climate of Northern California made him an expert at barbequing and he also enjoys slow smoking a variety of meats or fish. They both enjoy riding their e-bikes together to the Farmers Market at Waterside every Sunday and on the miles of trails throughout Lakewood Ranch. They especially enjoy spending time at their property on Anna Maria Island and relaxing on Bradenton Beach.

Pete Wells, Owner

Pete was born and raised in Wallasey, England, a stone’s throw away from the River Mersey across from the great City of Liverpool. As a kid he used to look out across the River Mersey to the Irish Sea and dream of what lay over the horizon…America!

In 1980 at age 24, his dream finally came true when he landed in Los Angeles, California with a small suitcase, $120 in one pocket and all his dreams in the other!

Pete made his way up to the San Francisco Bay Area where he spent almost forty successful years in sales in the construction supply and home improvement business. He has visited thousands of homes and construction sites ranging from simple dwellings to mega mansions, always focusing on his client’s needs first and delivering on his commitments. He has earned many sales and service awards.

Born from Pete’s lifelong commitment to serve others and the satisfaction he gains from it, today Crown Home Watch has one simple mantra:

“We treat every client– like they’re our only client.” 

In addition to founding Crown Home Watch, Pete is also an accomplished author. He quickly realized that after life in the fast paced San Francisco Bay Area, Lakewood Ranch would prove to be the perfect environment for him to complete his first novel, a 500 page historical fiction thriller called, “The Jackboot”. The book was co-authored with his father, a proud British World War II veteran. It is set in England in 1940 at the height of the Battle of Britain and tells the incredible story of the greatest gold heist in history.   Taryn Wells, Owner

Taryn was born and raised on the central coast of California. Always a high achiever, she became one of the youngest ever licensed pilots, earning her wings on her seventeenth birthday and was a founding member of the International Organization of Women Pilots. She later became a flight instructor before settling into a successful career of over 30 years as a business, finance and accounting professional.

Taryn has earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Business and is a Certified Public Accountant. In addition she is a Certified Fraud Examiner. Taryn’s attention to detail dovetails perfectly with her favorite business philosophy:

“The difference between mediocrity and excellence – is attention to detail!”

Today Taryn is fully engaged in the administration and management side of the family business as well as assisting Pete in the field. She is particularly interested in the Senior Assist aspect of their business. When asked to comment, she added:

“It’s the fastest growing segment of our business. It’s amazing how many seniors there are in Lakewood Ranch who’s families live out of state and that need the services we offer. While there are many fine facilities in the area that address senior’s medical needs, there are very few who offer them the help they need in maintaining their home when they are hospitalized.

If they suddenly find themselves in the hospital or rehab, who is there to secure the house, set the AC, check the doors and windows, and empty the fridge? And when they are ready to return, who will make sure the AC is running correctly, the fridge is restocked, and the house is secure? We are there during this difficult time to make sure the process moves along as smoothly as possible.”

Taryn enjoys cooking and entertaining friends and family at their Lakewood Ranch home. She is also an avid collector of British Royalty memorabilia. She loves to scour antique shops with Pete on their frequent trips to England, where she always finds more treasures to add to her impressive collection. They were in England to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee and it was no surprise that when searching for a name for their Home Watch business she suggested the name…Crown Home Watch.
